Strain gauge for electronic circuit boards

Line-up of strain gauges suitable for circuit board stress measurement

Various electronic components are installed in PCs, smartphones and in-vehicle electronic equipment. Mechanical strain generated in the circuit board during the manufacturing process and thermal strain caused by temperature changes during operation can cause defects in solder joints and elements. These are damages caused by the strain generated on the circuit board, and if individual strain limits are defined, highly reliable manufacturing can be achieved.

●Strain measurement of probes during circuit board partitioning/inspection (F and EF series tri-axial and single-axial gauges).

To determine the maximum principal strain, tri-axial strain gauges capable of rosette analysis are placed close to the mounted component or at the component mounting position to determine the maximum principal strain and its direction. If the direction is known, a single-axial strain gage can be used to determine the maximum principal strain, so a single-axial strain gauge is placed.

●Heat cycle testing of circuit boards (UBF series)

Mechanical thermal strain can be obtained by placing single-axial strain gauges in the direction of maximum principal strain, e.g. at the four corners of a substrate, and reducing self-temperature compensation. Its magnitude and repetition are involved in thermal fatigue.

Stress measurement due to tightening of screws during circuit board assembly

By installing strain gauges on M3 bolts and measuring the axial force applied to them, the state of the fastening can be checked and controlled (checking for looseness, over-tightening and specified fastening force).

We offer gage installation for measuring the axial force of bolts. We can drill holes in supplied bolts, install strain gauges for bolts and perform load calibration. Existing bolts can be installed for axial force management.

Various strain measuring instruments to suit the measurement conditions and number of points

The TMR-300 series multi-recorder system is a compact multi-channel data recording system that can easily be combined with measuring units for various sensor inputs according to the purpose.
Various calculation processes such as rosette analysis can also be performed using the measurement software supplied as standard. It is a measuring instrument that can handle everything from small-scale measurements to large-scale tests at will.
